What dance class should I do?

January 13, 2017

The dance world can be a very exciting yet confusing place. There are so many dance styles that are on offer it is sometimes hard to know where to start when inquiring about classes. Some families choose a class based on what suits their weekly schedule, some choose a class because of something they have seen on television. Whatever their reasons people enjoy a wide variety of dance classes and not every dance class will be suited to you and your needs.

The world of Theatrical Dance does not begin and end with ballet! Most ballet or dance schools these days offer a variety of classes including ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop and the list goes on. We have many students who begin dancing in one style and as they get older they expand their classes so that they get to experience different things and add to their dance culture. Each style has it's own skill set, uses different styles of music and it's own 'wow' factor depending on your interests.

A good studio will be able to explain the classes they have on offer to you so that you may select a suitable class for yourself or your child. It is a great idea to find out if you can trial the different classes on offer - a lot of schools offer a free trial or a 7 day class pass, so that new students can participate fully in their classes. This enables you to explore each dance style, maybe there are different teachers or different students in each class. You will be able to make an informed decision on what style suits you and hopefully avoid the 'I want to quit' because it did not turn out to be what you were expecting.
